The Technical Workshop: "How to use the International Database on Fortifications" will be held on 9 and 10 November 2017, in continuity of the International Meeting on Fortifications and Military Heritage - ICOFORT RIO 2017. The workshop will be held in the Auditorium of the Department of Education and Culture - DECEx, at the Duque de Caxias Palace (PDC), Duque de Caxias Square, 25, Centro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil..
On the day 9/11 (Thursday), the Workshop will be administered at the time of 13:00 h to 18:00 h.
Already on the day 10/11 (Friday), the practical part of the Workshop will occur at the time of 09:00 h to 12:00 h. The total of the Workshop's hourly load will be 8 (eight) hours, entitled to a certificate of participation.
Participants, if possible, could take their own notebook computer to optimize the Workshop's practical part, as well as some photographic file related to a fortification (new or old photography, map, plant, etc., already in JPG format), and/or a file already scanned in PDF format pertaining to a bibliography related to some fortification (may be the PDF of a book, folder, scientific article, printed document or manuscript, report, folder, etc.).
The Technical Workshop: "How to use the International Database on Fortifications" aims to technically empower the managers of fortifications, researchers and other professionals and institutions interested in the use, search for results and the editing of contents of the International Database on Fortifications (www.fortalezas.org).
The International Database on Fortifications - available in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages, and accessed in a public and free form at the Internet address: - is a thematic database on fortifications and military historical heritage in all over the World, addressing existing constructions, ruins and even already missing fortifications. In this database it is possible to consult, as well as insert by a collaborative way, several content on the fortifications: historical description, technical data and visitation, photographs, videos, plans and maps, historical documents and other thematic bibliographies with integral content, biographies on historical characters, illustrated glossary of technical terms, among other content related to this fortified heritage.
The International Database on Fortifications was developed by the Multimedia Fortresses Project (UFSC), under the coordination of architect Roberto Tonera. The platform was created in 2002 and published on the Internet in 2008 becoming the unic database of fortified heritage internationally and endorsed by the International Scientific Committee on Fortifications and Military Heritage -ICOFORT.
2. TARGET AUDIENCES:
The target audience of the Workshop is the participants of the Meeting ICOFORT Rio 2017, managers of fortifications, researchers (architects, archaeologists, historians, etc.), preservation and tourism institutions, and all the people who are interested in fortifications and fortified heritage.
The Workshop’s subscriptions will be free, limited to the capacity of the auditorium.
In filling the registration form, the correct information of the full name, together with the number of the CPF or (Passport number for foreigners), is essential for the subsequent issuance of the certificates of participation.
Certificates can be obtained directly from the site: www.certificado.prpe.ufsc.br. The number of the CPF (or the passport number) must be typed with 11 digits, no dots or dashes. In the case of passport number, add zeros before the number until the 11 digits are completed.
The Workshop will be held in Rio de Janeiro, on 9 and 10 November 2017, integrating the post event program of "International Meeting of Fortifications and Military Heritage - ICOFORT Rio 2017" which occurs in the same city, from 6 to 8 November, 2017 (https://www.icofortbrasil.org/).
The Workshop will take place on the day 9/11/2017 (Thursday) from 13:00 h to 18:00 h (5 hours) and on the day 10/11/2017 (Friday) from 09:00 h to 12:00 h (3 hours), totaling an hourly load of 8 (eight) hours. On Thursday afternoon, an audiovisual presentation will explaine the database: conceptualisation, objectives and functionalities. On Friday morning, practical activities will be conducted with participants: accessing, consulting, entering and editing thematic content on fortifications, through online access to the database available on the Internet (www.fortalezas.org). It will be addressed, among other content: historical description of the fortifications, technical data and visitation about the monuments, photographs, videos, plans and maps, historical documents and other thematic bibliographies with integral content, biographies on hidtorical characters, and a illustrated glossary of technical terms.
Participants are asked that, if possible, take their own notebook computer to optimize this practical part of the Workshop, as well as also take some photographics files related to a fortification (a new or old photography, map, plant of a fortification, etc., already in JPG format), and/or a file already scanned in PDF format pertaining to a bibliography related to some fortification (may be the PDF of a book, folder, scientific article, printed document or manuscript, report, folder, etc.).
As the International Database on Fortifications (www.fortalezas.org) is configured on a collaborative virtual platform, the Workshop intend to instrumentalize the people in the optimum utilization of this digital tool, seeking to adequately empower these professionals for the use, for the recovery of results and the editing of contents of that database. It is also expected to consolidate this digital platform internationally as the unic unified database on fortifications and fortified heritage worldwide, endorsed by the ICOFORT - International Scientific Committee on Fortifications and Milatary Heritage.

The Workshop: "How to use the International Database on Fortifications" will be administered by Roberto Tonera (email@example.com), member of the ICOFORT and architect by the Coordination of the Fortresses of the Island of Santa Catarina (Federal University of Santa Catarina - UFSC). The event is a joint achievement of the UFSC, in partnership with the National Army-DPHCEx, subordinate to the Department of Education and Culture of the Brazilian Army (DECEX), and with the International Scientific Committee on Fortifications and Military Heritage-ICOFORT. The realization of the Workshop also counts with the support of the Multimedia Fortresses Project (UFSC) and the Laboratory of Technology and Social Development (LTDS/COPPE). from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
The Executive Coordination of the event will be conducted by Roberto Tonera (UFSC), Edgley Pereira de Paula (DPHCEx), Marcelo de Mello Ribeiro (DPHCEx), and José Cláudio dos Santos Júnior (ICOFORT). It will be support also by members from the Coordination of the Fortresses (UFSC) and by the DPHCEx’s military members.
